He walked out with a 2.90 ERA after a rough night. Yes, it was a tough night but Houck does not overpower with his stuff. His fastball ranged from 86-90 MPH with little movement. His fastball flashed some running/cutting action inside to right-handers but it was generally a straight pitch. Houck's second best pitch is a 77-81 MPH slider that flashes tight, late break. It got a good amount of swings and misses when he kept down in the zone and used it ahead of the count. The pitch lost its lateral action when he would roll his arm over and not stay closed through the pitch. Houck mixed in a high-70s curveball with shallow break that acted as a pitch to give hitters another look.
