Eric Beaulac started the game and simply did not have command of his repertoire. Beaulac was all over the zone, leading to seven walks and four earned runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings. On a steamy, humid morning, the right-hander had little command of his slider and changeup which forced him to rely on the fastball. Beaulac's fastball ranged 90-93 MPH and averaged 91-92 MPH, the latter which he hit at least seven times. His four-seam fastball is a pretty straight pitch, but he appeared to show a fastball with some cutting action at 91 MPH. The right-hander's slider sat 79-83 MPH but he struggled with consistent feel for the pitch. He was about 50/50 effectively in the strike zone or just below the zone. When it was on, it showed good, late and tight break. When off, it flattened out and stayed up or he overthrew it and put it in the dirt.
