MMLN – B-Mets Playoff Push Comes Up Short

Fernando looks good at season's end

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Binghamton Mets entered Sunday still in a position to earn an Eastern League playoff spot, but needed help to clinch it. The B-Mets needed victories on both Sunday and Monday coupled with two losses by the Portland Sea Dogs, but that opportunity was lost when they dropped Sunday's tilt against the New Britain Rock Cats by a 9-6 final score.

Fernando Martinez made important contributions on the afternoon. First he plated the tying run in the third inning by dropping the bat head on a changeup below his knees for a groundball through the hole at second base. His big shot came in the 8th inning when he smashed an inside curveball off left-hander Jason Miller for a towering flyball that hit off the top of the centerfield wall. The...
