Down on the Farm: Keppinger doubles in a win

Down on the Farm for May 17: Jeff Keppinger comes through with a two-run double in the ninth for Norfolk ... Binghamton and St. Lucie are rained out ... The Suns drop both ends of a doubleheader to Lake County.

Norfolk Tides
Triple-A International League

Jeff Keppinger's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Norfolk Tides to a 3-2 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens Tuesday.

The Tides rallied against Lee Gardner, who walked Michael Tucker and allowed a single to Jose Offerman. Tagg Bozied struck out before Keppinger doubled to center, bringing home both runs.

Tim Lavigne started for Norfolk and allowed two runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. Royce Ring (1-0) picked up the victory with a scoreless ninth inning.

Notes: Tucker had an RBI double in the sixth … Anderson Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. He is hitting .417 (10-for-24) with three stolen bases since joining Norfolk on May 11.


Binghamton Mets
Double-A Eastern League

Tuesday's game between the Binghamton Mets and the Connecticut Defenders was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, with the first game starting at 10:35.


St. Lucie Mets
Single-A Florida State League

Tuesday's game between the St. Lucie Mets and the Dunedin Blue Jays was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, with the first game beginning at 5 p.m.


Hagerstown Suns
Single-A South Atlantic League

The Hagerstown Suns were swept in a double-header Tuesday by the Lake County Captains, losing the first game, 6-2, and dropping the nightcap, 10-1.

In the first game, Lake County put up six runs in the first inning against Suns starter Ryan Meyers (1-4). In the second game, Lake County's big inning came in the fourth, with Jeff Landing (2-5) allowing five runs (four earned).

Notes: Hector Pellot had a run-scoring single for Hagerstown in the first game … Rafael Arroyo had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning of Game 2.
