Interview: Cards OF prospect James Ramsey
Outfielder James Ramsey of Florida State was the St. Louis Cardinals top position prospect taken in the 2012 draft at 23rd overall. With considerable talent, but also a reasonable bonus expectation as a senior, Ramsey provided the Cards with financial flexibility to also sign top picks Michael Wacha and Carson Kelly, among others. Ramsey The 22-year-old was challenged in his placement into the Cardinals system. His initial assignment was the highest in the organization of any 2012 Cards draftee – A-Advanced Palm Beach. After a good start, Ramsey's offensive performance dropped off for the remainder of the Florida State League season. Always a hustler and a leader among his teammates, Ramsey continued to play strong defense in centerfield. He carried over his confident enthusiasm to the fall instructional league camp in Jupiter, Florida. That is where we spoke about his 2012 and his expectations for 2013 and beyond.
