Wheeler allowed one earned run in last loss

After beginning the 2012 season with a slow start, earning only one win in five April appearances, Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler has made an impressive comeback. After collecting six consecutive wins, the right-hand pitcher has racked up a W-L record of 6-2 and a 1.92 ERA, a performance that is coming to outshine his previous seasons in the minor leagues.

Wheeler, 22, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the first round in the 2009 MLB Draft. He was traded to the Mets' organization in 2011 and was promoted to the Double-A Eastern League this season. On May 3rd, the Mets announced that Wheeler was being placed on the seven-day disabled list after suffering a right middle fingernail avulsion. Missing only one start, the righty returned...
