Biography:
The Mets signed Harold Eckert following a tryout camp prior to the 2001 season. Originally, the Dodgers drafted Eckert in 1999 but voided the contract when Eckert was found to have a pre-existing elbow injury that required surgery. He attended Florida International University. He had surgery and rehabbed at FIU before trying out with the Mets.

. Eckert throws hard and has a nasty slider. Armed with those pitchers, Eckert has a chance to be a quality closer. Eckert should benefit from the increased arm strength of the 126 innings he pitched in 2002.
