The Cardinals purchased the contract of Ron Villone from the Memphis Redbirds just prior to the 08 campaign.

Signed to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training camp on February 19, 2008. Villone made the Cardinals 2008 opening day roster as one of two lefthanders in the bullpen. This
marks his 11th team, one shy of Mike Morgan's Major League record of 12 teams.
In his nine spring appearances Villone allowed just one earned run in 10.1 innings pitched for a team spring low of 0.87 ERA.
2008 Season
Villone made 74 appearances, matching a team high with Ryan Franklin, for the Cardinals in 2008 as a left specialist, pitching only 50 innings. Villon posted a record of 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.
2007 Season
Made 37 appearances for the Yankees in ‘07 and was 0-0 with a
4.25 ERA. Opponents batted .234 (36-154) off of him; LH .239 (16-
69, 2 HR), RH .230 (20-87, 3 HR).
Career Notes
Prior to the 2008 season, Villone was a veteran of 580 Major League games (93 starts) and owns a 55-57 career mark with a 4.76 ERA.
Originally selected by Seattle Mariners in 1st Round (14th overall) of 1992 amateur entry draft.
