The Mets selected Chad Bowen in the 2000 draft. He attended Galatin HS in Hendersonville, Tennessee a stones throw from Kingsport where Bowen began his professional career. He had a sparkling debut earning BaseballAmerica's all-rookie team honors and a listing among the top 20 prospects in the Appalachian League as voted by managers and coaches. He had a 7-2 record, 3.00 ERA. In 63 IP, he issued 23 BB and had 41 K while allowing 59 hits. He has since been beset by a variety of injuries that have delayed his progress through the Mets farm system.
