| Biography: |
The Mets used a supplemental 1st round pick in the June 2001 free agent draft to select David Wright. Wright is from Chesapeake Virginia which is a stone's throw from Norfolk the location of the Mets' triple A team. Wright is a life-long Mets fan. Going into the draft, Wright was rated as a late 2 nd or early 3 rd round selection because he lacks exceptional athleticism and didn't project (for some scouts) to be a 30 home run hitter. But, the Mets made an excellent decision to take him as a supplemental 1st round pick. Wright had signed with Georgia Tech.
The coaches and manager of the Appalachian League rated him the 6th best prospect in the league. Considering his late start, he demonstrated good plate discipline and pitch recognition. Wright has tremendous work ethic and is a hard-nosed player. |
