Biography:
Roberto Manuel Hernandez and his wife Ivonne have 3 children, Kairy (6-4-92), Roberto Jr. (5-8-94) and Jose (12-1-99). Attended New Hampton (N.H.) High School and played college ball at the University of South Carolina-Aiken...the school's refurbished ballpark was named after Hernandez in 1993. Has been recognized for 2 straight years as a "Good Guy in Sports" by The Sporting News for his civic dedication and community service. Serves as the 2002 "Project Warmth" chairperson along with Trent Green of the Kansas City Chiefs and supports the Puerto Rico All-Stars Fund, which supports youth-related educational and character-building programs. Joined several of his teammates at the Gloves for Kids event last summer, which benefited children involved with the RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities) program...also volunteered for several community activities in Kansas City during the Christmas season and participated in the 2002 Royals Farmland Caravan. Organized an autograph show to benefit the hurricane disaster relief fund for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in the winter of 1998...was nominated for the Florida Sports Awards Hometown Hero Award in 1998.
