| Douglas Andrew (Doug) Mientkiewicz graduated from Westminster (FL) Christian High School in 1992, where he played baseball, basketball and football...Named to All-State teams in baseball and football his senior year...Attended Florida State University, where he was 10th in the NCAA in RBI and ninth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in batting average in 1995...Led his FSU team in batting average for three straight seasons...Selected to the College World Series All-Decade team for the 1990s...Played for the United States National team in 1994, and was a member of the gold medal-winning National team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney...Hit .414 with two game-winning home runs and nine RBI during the Olympic tournament...Recipient of the Carl R. Pohlad Award for outstanding community service in the upper midwest in 2003...Spends time working in support of Wildlife Forever, Garth Brooks' Teammates for Kids Foundation, and the Parker Hughes Cancer Research Center. |
