| Kazuo (Kaz) Matsui graduated from PL Gakeun in Osaka, Japan...Played basketball in junior high school...Montreal's Tomo Ohka was drafted in the same round in 1994 by the Yokohama Baystars...Was a pitcher before the Seibu Lions converted him to an infielder...Played in the All-Star series vs. Major League Baseball's All-Stars in November of 1998...Batted .250 (5-20) with four runs scored, three RBI, three stolen bases, one double and one triple...Also played against the Major League All-Stars in November of 2000...Hit .440, including a game in which he hit a home run from each side of the plate...In August of 2004, participated in a fundraiser at Shea for JASSI, where he helped raise monies for Japanese Americans and their children who were affected by 9/11. |
