| Concepcion was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2001 out of Santo Domingo of the Dominican Republic. Playing baseball at Victor Garillo Puello High School, Ambiorix spent the 2002 and 2003 season with the Kingsport Mets (R) and played under the name of Roberto Solano. In 2003 he hit .214 (36-168) with 22 runs scored, 8 doubles, 3 triples, and 19 RBI’s, while stealing 10 bases in 57 games. In 2002, Concepcion hit .276 (63-228) with 25 runs scored, 13 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs and 31 RBI’s with 6 stolen bases in 57 games. In 2002, he was forth in the Appalachian League in triples. Concepcion established himself as one of the greatest Brooklyn Cyclones to ever wear the uniform. He nearly was the team’s triple crown winner with a .305 average (79-259), 8 home runs, 46 RBI’s, 38 runs scored, 14 doubles, 3 triples and 28 stolen bases. His 46 runs batted in set an all-time Cyclones record. |
