Biography:
Coles was selected by the Mets in the 5th round of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft out of the University of Lousiana-Lafayette. Coles began the 2003 season with the Cyclones, however had a short stint with the club after batting .167 (6-36) with 5 runs scored and 1 triple in 15 games for the Cyclones. After being sent to the Kingsport Mets, Coles hit .333 (32-96) with 19 runs scored, 5 doubles, and 1 triple. In his senior year at Lousiana Lafayette, Coles hit .371 (89-240) with 18 doubles, 7 triples, 9 home runs, and 45 RBI. Corey also picked up three saves and posted a 3.38 ERA in 10 games for the Ragin’Cajuns. Coles led the NY-Penn League in average halfway through the 2004 season, however faltered with a season ending slump. Coles finished 2004 with a .278 batting average (66-237) with 40 runs scored, 2 home runs, 20 RBI’s, 6 doubles and 5 triples. His 5 triples set an all time Cyclones record.
