| Brinkley was selected by the Mets in the 23rd Round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft out of Southwest Missouri State. Dante spent the 2003 season with the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League, where he hit .303 (43-142) in 44 games with 7 doubles, 3 triples, 17 RBI and 9 stolen bases. While at Southwest Missouri State, Brinkley hit .343 (279-813) for his career with 54 doubles, 19 triples, 16 home runs, 152 RBI’s and 69 stolen bases in 215 games, spanning four seasons. He received the SMS Ted Willis Team MVP Award in three consecutive years (2001-2003). In 2002, he was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 48th Round of the Major League Baseball Draft. Brinkley began the 2004 season with Capital City (A) and batted .228 (23-101), with 2 home runs, 14 RBI’s, 7 doubles and 2 triples. Brinkley joined the Brooklyn Cyclones (A) in June and batted .316 (74-234) with 6 home runs, 30 RBI’s, 9 doubles, 1 triple and 14 stolen bases. His 47 runs scores set an all-time Brooklyn Cyclones record.
