Biography:
Burt was drafted by the Mets in the 19th Round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft out of the University of Miami. Burt finished his college career ranked in the top 10 in nine different offensive categories for the University of Miami. Following his senior season, in which he helped lead the Hurricanes to a 50-13 record and a fifth place finish in the College World Series, Burt was named to a third team All-American by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball after hitting .371 with 14 home runs, 73 RBI’s, 70 runs scored and a team best .678 slugging percentage. Burt played in the Cape Cod League during the summer of 2003 with the Brewster Whitecaps. At Bergan Catholic High School Burt was a two time All-State selection in football, and holds the school record for most-tackles. He is the son of former New York Giant and San Francisco 49er, Jim Burt, who also attended the University of Miami and who won two Super Bowl Titles during his NFL Career. Burt has a solid start to his professional career with the Brooklyn Cyclones (A). In 48 games he batted .274 (46-168) with 4 home runs, 23 RBI’s, 20 runs scored, 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 6 stolen bases.
