Despite winning only half of their games so far this June, the Savannah Sand Gnats managed to get…
Gaski Remains Confident
Gaski was successfully hitting .389 as a Sand Gnat, after he was released by the Padres and picked up by the Mets as a free agent at the end of May.
With second baseman Jordany Valdespin returning to the lineup, backed up by the utility abilities of Josh Satin, the 5-foot-10, 185 pound Gaski simply no longer had a place on the Gnats roster.
"Honestly I didn't even know who the kid was when he came here," said Savannah hitting coach Ryan Ellis.
"We got him from San Diego and he made an immediate impact as soon as he got here. His approach got better each day and consistency is the one thing we can't preach enough here."
Gaski not only hit well while with the Mets Low-A affiliate, but he also made several standout plays in the field, spending the majority of his time at second.
Before Gaski's departure, he spoke about his opportunity to play for Savannah and about what he attributed to his success while there.
"I was fortunate enough to get picked up by the Mets and I got out here and got the chance to play pretty consistently," Gaski said.
"I got the chance at some good pitches and was able to get some good swings on them, so it's been a good experience for me."
With a strong arm and quick reflexes in the field, coupled with a solid approach at the plate and the ability to read pitches and carry the ball the other way, it should be safe to say that it will not be long before Gaski gets another chance at full season ball to prove his capabilities.
