Robert McIntyre was the Mets 13th round selection in the June 1999 draft. McIntyre attended Hillsborough H. S. in Tampa, Florida.

After having solid seasons at Gulfport in 1999 and Kingsport in 2000, McIntyre struggled at short-season A level baseball. He struggled hitting breaking pitches. He continues to demonstrate increased power, but his K-rate and BB-rate have suffered badly.
