LHP, Jayson Weir

The Mets drafted Jayson Weir in the 9th round of the 2001 draft. Weir played football in Central Florida where Mike Hampton hails. Weir is often compared to Hampton. Weir played safety and had received collegiate offers for that sport. Weir, a highly-regarded hitter, was considered by some teams as an outfielder.

Weir pitched very well with Kingsport before struggling at Brooklyn after being promoted. The Mets suspended Weir thereby cutting short his season. Weir had no decisions at either Kingsport or Brooklyn. His combined stats were solid. He struck out 21 and walked 2 in 21 innings. He allowed 22 hits. Year Team W-L...
