Vital Statistics: Name: Daniel Stegall DOB: September 24, 1987 Height: 6'3" Weight: 180 Bats: Left Throws: Right Daniel Stegall struggled during his transition from two-sport star in high school to budding professional baseball player [he was recruited to play quarterback for the University of Miami]. In 40 games with the Gulf Coast League Mets in 2006, he hit for a slim .214 average and displayed minimal power as he attempted to stabilize his swing while he learned the ropes. He returned to camp last spring with more confidence and better understanding of how to set goals with so many years of development still ahead. Yet, as it is common with many young players down on the farm, the Mets challenged Stegall and sent him to Savannah to start the year.
