Norfolk Tides
Triple-A International League

Evan MacLane picked up the victory in his Triple-A debut, allowing one earned run in seven innings to help Norfolk to a 6-4 victory over Toledo Monday.

The 23-year-old left-hander gave up three hits and one walk, striking out four in the effort. He was backed by Victor Diaz's two-run homer in the third inning and by Jeff Keppinger's three-run double in the fifth.

Notes: Diaz was 2-for-2 with three walks, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. … Ray Navarette doubled twice and scored two runs. … Tim Lavigne pitched the ninth inning to record his first save of the year.


Binghamton Mets
Double-A Eastern League

Michel Abreu and Jay Caligiuri homered, but Binghamton's late rally fell short as the B-Mets fell to Connecticut on Monday, 4-3, snapping a three-game winning streak.

Binghamton starter William Vazquez (0-1) – making the start in place of Vincent Cordova, who unexpectedly left the team over the weekend – was rocky in his first taste of Double-A action. He allowed three runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings, including a home run to Jake Wald.

Abreu and Caligiuri slugged solo home runs in the seventh inning. In the eighth, Jonathan Slack reached base on an error and scored on Wilson Batista's single to center.

Notes: Carlos Gomez, dropped to ninth in the batting order, had two hits, including a triple. He is batting .228. … Robert Paulk fired two scoreless innings of relief. Paulk has not been scored upon at Binghamton in four innings after allowing nine earned runs in 11.1 innings at St. Lucie (7.15 ERA). … Tuesday sees top prospect Mike Pelfrey making his first start at NYSEG Stadium.


St. Lucie Mets
Single-A Florida State League

Mets starter Jacob Ruckle allowed three runs (two earned) in five innings, including a home run, as St. Lucie fell to Fort Myers Monday, 4-1.

Ruckle (0-1) was touched by Matt Tolbert's home run in the first inning and for two runs in the second.

The Mets were kept quiet by Fort Myers starter Matt Garza, who allowed just Shawn Bowman's second-inning home run in a nine-strikeout, eight-inning gem. Garza scattered four hits and walked one.

Notes: Travis Hope pitched four innings and allowed one unearned run. Hope hasn't allowed an earned run in three appearances, spanning 8.1 innings. … Bowman's home run gave him 13 RBI for the season, second on the club to Mike Carp's 18.


Hagerstown Suns
Single-A South Atlantic League

Jonathon Niese pitched six solid innings and Nick Evans homered as the Suns powered past Lakewood Monday, 6-2.

Niese (5-0) pitched into the sixth inning for the first time this season, remaining undefeated following a five-hit, six-strikeout performance.

Evans homered to left-center leading off the second inning facing Blue Claws starter Josh Outman. Drew Butera added a run-scoring single in the second and stroked a single that plated two runs on a throwing error by Lakewood centerfielder Greg Golson.

Notes: Jose Castro added a run-scoring single for insurance in the seventh, one of three hits. He is batting .182. … Fernando Martinez, batting leadoff, went 1-for-4. He has hit safely in 23 of his first 27 games for Hagerstown, and is batting .325.
