Down on the Farm for May 3: Rochester touches Heath Bell for a ninth-inning run ... Miguel Pinango roughed up by Akron ... Michael Devaney pitches eight strong innings for St. Lucie, and the Mets hold off a late rally ... Hagerstown takes the day off.

Norfolk Tides
Triple-A International League

Josh Rabe's run-scoring single off Heath Bell in the ninth inning lifted Rochester past Norfolk Tuesday, 2-1.

Starting pitcher Boof Bonser went seven innings, holding the Tides to just Lastings Milledge's RBI double in the third inning. Garrett Jones homered off Norfolk starter Tim Lavigne in the fourth.

Notes: Norfolk committed three errors in the contest and had just three hits. … William Vazquez gave the Tides 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief around four hits, and Anderson Garcia fired 1-2/3 shutout innings. … The earned run was just the second allowed in 12 innings this season by Bell (1-2), who has a 1.50 ERA and five saves.

Binghamton Mets
Double-A Eastern League

Miguel Pinango allowed five runs (four earned) and eight hits in 4-2/3 innings as Binghamton fell at Akron Tuesday, 5-2.

Pinango allowed run-scoring hits to Pat Osborn and Nathan Panter in a two-run second inning, and Panter added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Shaun Larkin singled to center in the fifth, plating two runs and chasing Pinango.

Notes: Corey Ragsdale homered in the third inning for Binghamton, his second. … Jonathan Slack had a run-scoring single in the seventh inning. ... The Mets announced Tuesday that right-hander Alay Soler has been promoted to Binghamton and will start Saturday at NYSEG Stadium against New Hampshire.

St. Lucie Mets
Single-A Florida State League

Josh Petersen's run-scoring double in the ninth inning proved to be the margin of victory as St. Lucie held off a late Palm Beach rally Tuesday, escaping with a 4-3 victory.

The Cardinals put up two runs in the bottom of the ninth against Carlos Muniz on Ryan Barthelemy's third home run, but Muniz settled in and recorded the final three outs for his seventh save.

That preserved the first Florida State League win for Michael Devaney (1-2), who allowed one run and four hits over eight innings, striking out eight.

Notes: Petersen, St. Lucie's designated hitter, doubled twice in three at-bats and scored a run. He is hitting .338. … Ambiorix Concepcion drove in three runs for St. Lucie and has 10 for the season.

Hagerstown Suns
Single-A South Atlantic League

Hagerstown had Tuesday off. The Suns open a six-game road trip on Wednesday at Lake County.

The Suns go into action Wednesday with a 10-13 record, four games behind in the South Atlantic League's Northern division.
