After initially struggling in his first 13 games for the Brooklyn Cyclones, batting .204 with no extra-base hits, the 23-year-old Cal-State Chico product was shipped down to the Mets' Rookie-league club in Kingsport, Tenn. It was there, for whatever reason, that things immediately clicked. Gonzalez stroked three hits in both of his first two games for the K-Mets and never slowed, batting .357 through 33 games at Kingsport and earning a successful return engagement with the Cyclones to round out the short-season schedule.
