The Pelfrey Factor: Mike Pelfrey, drafted by the Mets in the 1st round of the 2005 MLB Draft, has not signed as of yet. Until he does, he can't be considered a pitching prospect in the Mets' system. Once he does, he immediately becomes the Mets' top pitching prospect as far as highest ceiling. The Two Farm Systems: Between most of the position comparisons, from catcher to outfield, the Mets had an advantage over their cross-town rivals from the Bronx. But where the Yankees clearly have an edge is in the starting pitching department. The Yankees have spent a majority of their draft picks the last two seasons restocking what was a depleted crop of pitching prospects. Combining the pitchers from both farm systems, the Yankees have the only two pitchers that have ace potential at the Major League level.
