Milledge selected to USA Regional team

New York Mets top prospect Lastings Milledge has been selected to the represent the United States at the 2005 CONCEBE Regional Olympic Qualifying tournament beginning Nov. 15 in Phoenix.

It will be the second Team USA assignment of the year for Milledge, a speedy 20-year-old outfielder who was New York's first-round selection in the 2003 draft.

Milledge also played for manager Davey Johnson in the 2005 World Cup held in the Netherlands in September, batting .302 (13-for-43) with three home runs and six RBI in 10 games.

Milledge – who also represented the United States on the 2001 Youth and 2002 Junior clubs – split the 2005 season between St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League and Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League.

He is currently playing for the Grand Canyon Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, batting .290 (20-for-69) with four home runs and 14 RBI in 17 games entering Thursday's action.

The CONCEBE tournament will pit the United States against teams from five other countries from North and Central America, with the top four finishers moing on to the Americas Olympic Qualifier in Havana, Cuba in August 2006. This stage of the tournament runs through Nov. 19.
