Padilla, Scobie represent Tides at All-Star Game

The Norfolk Tides will be represented by pitchers Juan Padilla and Jason Scobie, plus trainer Brian Chicklo, in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wed., July 13 at Raley Field in Sacramento, Calif.

Padilla, 28, was 3-2 with a 1.44 ERA and 11 saves in the first half for Norfolk. Making 36 appearances (two starts), the right-handed Padilla allowed 45 hits and 13 runs (10 earned) over 62.1 innings, walking just nine and striking out 59.

Opposing batters hit just .200 against Padilla, who was signed as a minor league free agent on Dec. 23. He pitched last season in the majors for the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds, going a combined 1-0 with a 7.71 ERA in 18 appearances.

Scobie, 26, was 10-4 with a 3.40 ERA in 17 starts for the Tides in the first half. In 100.2 innings, Scobie allowed 98 hits and 41 runs (38 earned), walking 36 and striking out 36.

Opposing batters hit .260 against the right-handed Scobie, a 15th round pick of the Mets in the June 2001 draft out of Louisiana State University.

Scobie finished the first half with a 5-1 run over his last seven starts, including two wins and a no-decision in his last three efforts.

The game will be televised live on ESPN 2 beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET, and a streaming video cast will be provided by minorleaguebaseball.com.
