Mets disable Castro; purchase DiFelice

NEW YORK – The Mets placed catcher Ramon Castro on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quad prior to Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, purchasing the contract of Mike DiFelice from Triple-A Norfolk.

Castro, 29, is hitting .241 (7-for-29) with no home runs and three RBI over 25 games with New York this season.

DiFelice, 35, is a career .239 hitter in 501 major league games with the St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks.

He was hitting .276 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 28 games at Triple-A Norfolk, and was named the International League Player of the Week for the week of April 25th - May 1st after hitting .455 (10-for-22) with five home runs and 12 RBI.
