Mets release Roberts
Grant Roberts

Posted Apr 15, 2005

The Mets released righthander Grant Roberts from his minor league contract on Thursday, with the pitcher's recovery from arthroscopic shoulder surgery progressing slowly.

Roberts, 27, had the surgery performed by St. Louis Cardinals team physician Dr. George Paletta last May and was released by the Mets following the 2004 season.

He opted to re-sign with the club to attend spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla., citing his familiarity with the organization's coaching hierarchy, but was an early cut to minor league camp on March 7.

In 76 Major League games with New York from 2000-04, Roberts was 4-4 with a 4.25 ERA and one save, making all but one of his appearances in relief. In 101.2 innings, he walked 37 and struck out 77.
