Dominican Winter League
Fernando Martinez: 1-for-3, 2 RBI
Martinez arrived in the DWL with the organization hoping he would use his assignment as a catapult for 2011. Three at-bats later, Martinez was shut down with a knee injury/pain. Martinez is out of the lineup for an indefinite period.
Daniel Murphy: 4-for-8, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, SB
Murphy started the week on a hot streak before he was shut down for five days after battling leg fatigue. Murphy is expected back mid-week. He is hitting .320 with four home runs, 22 RBI and a .395 OBP in 28 games.
Francisco Pena: 2-for-12, 2 R, 2 BB
Pena is playing just about every day but his production has yet to pick up. He has five hits in his last 25 at-bats with zero extra base hits and zero RBI. Overall, he is hitting .179 (10-for-56) in 22 games.
Justin Turner: 5-for-16, 4 R, 2B, BB
Turner arrived in the DWL in the middle of last week and is off to a solid start, including two multi-hit games. Turner hit .333 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and a .906 OPS in 78 games with Buffalo during the regular season.
Jeurys Familia: DNP
Elvin Ramirez: 2 G, 3 IP, H, 4 K, BB
Ramirez continued his strong winter league showing with three more scoreless innings. He has struck out 15 over his last 13.2 innings with four earned runs allowed in that span.
Armando Rodriguez: 1.2 IP, K, BB
Rodriguez got a week off before returning on Saturday. In six games, the right-hander has allowed two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Puerto Rico Winter League
Jose De La Torre: 1.2 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, K, BB
De La Torre had his worst outing of his DWL season – and it’s not even close. De La Torre gave up three earned runs over his previous 10 1/3 innings before his Wednesday outing. The outing inflated his DWL earned run average to 5.25. Overall, De La Torre has surrendered seven earned runs on 12 hits in 14 innings.
Venezuelan Winter League
Wilmer Flores: 9-for-17, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 2 R, 3 2B
Flores has been red hot since his return from a lower leg injury. He hit his first two home runs of the winter league season and drove in nine of his 11 RBI. He has struck out just once in 30 at-bats, though he has just one walk. He is hitting .433 (13-for-30) in 10 games.
Manuel Alvarez: 3 G, 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 K, BB
Alvarez continued his hot hand with 3 2/3 more shutout innings last week. He has allowed just three earned runs over his last 13 1/3 innings. In 13 games, Alvarez has allowed four earned runs in 18 1/3 innings (1.96 ERA) and a .239 OBA.
